There are a surprising number of restaurants and businesses right in Cabuya. Almost all of the hotels also boast a decent restaurant.

Some restaurants will deliver food to the house or at least offer the option of take away food. The two grocery stores also have excellent produce, alcohol and decent meat and fish. You can also buy fish from local fishermen for a good price. In fact, people come from Cobano and Montezuma to Cabuya to get their fresh seafood.

Cafe Coyote not only serves up excellent food and fresh fruit shakes but has wireless Internet service. Jenny, the owner is also our property manager and an excellent resource for booking transportation, local excursions and providing you with any information you need about the area and Costa Rican in general.

There is also a bus service that runs every two hours from the crossroads by the house to Montezuma. Montezuma has an excellent variety of restaurants, bars and stores. From Montezuma you can catch a bus into Cobano, which has the only bank in the area.

A taxi to Montezuma is about $4 and to Cobano about $14.

TAKE A HIKE
At low tide, take a 5 minute walk to the Magical Cabuya Island. Explore the island beaches, views and cemetery.

Walk 2km to the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve and take a two hour hike through the jungle to a pristine beach.

Walk 10 minutes up the beach to the River Lajas and hike up the river to one of several waterfalls.

Walk for an hour (7km) along the beach to Montezuma and enjoy a drink at one of the many funky restaurants.

Take a two hour hike via the high road over the Cabo Blanco reserve enjoying the amazing views and take a dip at the beach of Mal Pais or Playa Carmen.

TAKE A SWIM
Swim in the lovely warm safe water right in front of the house at high tide. There are no currents or big waves to worry about. Make sure to bring water shoes as the bottom is rocky.

At low tide wade in the tide pools. Find an amazing assortment of shells, stones and sea creatures.

Bring your snorkel gear and flippers out to Cabuya Island to see coral and tropical marine life.

Swim in the cool pools at the mouth of the river Lajas, only a ten minute walk along the beach.

Rent kayaks form the Howler Monkey Hotel, two doors down and kayak around Cabuya Island.

Do you have kids? For $100/week we can set up our above ground pool for you. Relax and watch the kids have fun.

TAKE IT EASY
Swing in a hammock and let the wildlife come to you. Monkeys, birds, iguanas, butterflies and geckos are regular visitors in the back yard.

Take your book and beach chair to the shady water's edge and enjoy the sound of the waves and the tropical breeze.

Build a sand castle and go beach combing with the kids. The beach changes regularly with the tide. You will be amazed at the treasures that you will find.

Watch the moon rise over the ocean and see the splendid night sky unfold before your eyes right in front of the house.
